A Meek And Quiet Spririt

3:1 In the same way, wives, be subject to your own husbands. Then, even if some are disobedient to the word, they will be won over without a word by the way you live, 2 when they see your pure and reverent conduct. 3 Let your beauty not be external – the braiding of hair and wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes – 4 but the inner person of the heart, the lasting beauty of a gentle and tranquil spirit, which is precious in God’s sight. 5 For in the same way the holy women who hoped in God long ago adorned themselves by being subject to their husbands, 6 like Sarah who obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You become her children when you do what is good and have no fear in doing so. 7 Husbands, in the same way, treat your wives with consideration as the weaker partners and show them honor as fellow heirs of the grace of life. In this way nothing will hinder your prayers.

The idea of a gentle and quiet spirit used to really bother me. I am not particularly quiet spoken. I'm a pure blood Cajun girl from the bayou's of Southeast Louisiana where Everyone is Loud and voices their opinion Loudly. A few days ago, two of my sisters and I went out to lunch and then to a flea market. We had the BEST time ever. We laughed SOOOO much that the owner of the restaurant came out and said that the guy shucking oysters way in the back could hear us laughing. He said, "Those women out there are having a good time," Yes we were and we were quite LOUD with our fun times of reminiscing growing up. 💗  When I get excited, sometimes my husband reminds me to speak more softly. When I really looked at these verses, I realized that it doesn’t say a gentle and quiet voice. How exciting! But what does it mean then to have a gentle and tranquil spirit? Dr. Wayne Grudem says that gentle means “’not insistent on one’s own rights’ or ‘not pushy,’ ‘not selfishly assertive, not demanding one’s own way.’”¹⁰

 Are you spending more time adorning your spirit or your body? 

 Submission does not mean that you are to submit to physical abuse from your Spouse. When you are in danger of harm, you need to act wisely to protect yourself and your family. 

Again, attitude has a lot to do with submission. I find that when I respect my husband and encourage him to make wise decisions then he hardly never has a problem with me sharing my thoughts on the subject as well (and may decide that my choice or idea is a better one) however, when I suggest that he doesn’t know what he is doing, I am failing to honor him and respect him as I should. The issue isn’t that I can’t state my thoughts, it is that I need to do it in the right way...... with the right attitude.

I've told my oldest daughter that it's NOT what you say.....But it's HOW you say it that makes all the difference. As a wife, I "usually" explain to my Mr. Handsome my thoughts on certain situations and he listens and then HE makes the final decision.

OR he'll tell me how he feels on a certain topic or decision and almost 100% of the time it's the same thing I'm thinking. So, we're normally on the "same page" in our decision making. As the word of God says....and the two shall become one.💜
 






 And so, remember ladies a meek and quiet spirit does NOT mean that you can't express your thoughts, it means that you should NOT over-ride your hubby. You can share your thoughts, but in the end.....He is the Head of the home and therefore is the one that stands before God on his leading in the family. Organic Healing Salve

I Love making "Healing Salve" for my family to use. I like that I know that what's put into it is pure, natural AND Organic. First thing I do is put 1 cup of each herb in a quart jar, (List is below), then fill it with Virgin Olive Oil, enough to 

cover the herbs.  

  

Put a cover on each jar along with a piece of tape with the name of the herb. Let it "set" for SIX weeks. Also, you will need to place the date on the label for when the six weeks will be over, so you will know when it's time to make your salve. When the six week time is over place a strainer over a large bowl.

 Put a piece of cheese cloth or a cloth diaper over the strainer

 

And dump All of the oil infused herbs in the strainer and

And squeeze out as much of the infused oil as you possibly can. 

Each jar of herbs should produce

approximately 1 Cup of oil.

Each herb should be placed in individual jars measuring 1 cup each.

I'll post a list of each item that I add to enrich the salve with more healing properties.

I then add all of the other ingredients and get everything melted and mixed together. 

 

When I get all the different items melted together, I then pour it into small individual jars and let it set until it cools.

 I have some labels that I've made that I put on the lids of the salve. All of my family uses it. I love it cause I know what is put in it. 💞

Now......For the instructions.

1 Cup Mullein Oil

1 Cup Chickweed Oil

1 Cup Goldenseal Oil

1 Cup Comfrey Oil

1 Cup Jewel Weed Oil

1 Cup Plaintaine Oil

1--16oz. Jar Coconut Oil

2 ozs. Arnica Ointment

2 oz. Bottle Tea Tree Oil

1 Cup Aloe Vera Juice

1 Bottle Vitamin E Oil (2 ozs.)

1 Bottle Grape Seed Extract (remove the oil from the caplets and add the oil....but DON'T add the caplets)

1/4 lb. block of Bee's Wax (OR, for every ounce of oil, add 1 Tablespoon of grated beeswax)

Heat the oils, stirring constantly until the wax melts. Now pour the liquid into small wide-mouth jars and let cool. We use this salve for insect bites, diaper rash, minor wounds, burns, poison ivy. Home-Made Laundry Detergent

I'm always trying to find different ways to help save money in my home. This post is on how I make my Homemade Laundry Detergent. First thing I do is to make sure that I have ALL of my ingredients bought and ready.

3 Bars Fels Naptha Soap (grated) 
.97 X 3=$2.91
1 Box Borax......$3.97
1 Box Washing Soda.....3.97
2 Cups of Baking Soda....$2.24 for Box
2 Containers of Purex Fabric Softener Crystals ( I use Snuggle Booster packs=$3.97)
2 Containers of Oxyclean Powder (I personally don't use this. I find that it doesn't clean any better if it's used or not) But, some people love it.
First thing I do is grate the bars of soap. I use my handy dandy Salad Shooter. Each bar of soap fits perfectly into the opening on top. If you don't own a Salad Shooter then you can use a Food Processor with the grating attachment. You want it to be in small slivers.

After all 3 bars are grated I then put the grated soap shavings into my food processor and add about a cup of borax to help with the mixing. If you don't add the powder then the soap shavings stay clumpy and don't break down into powder size.

This is what it should look like when it's done mixing. Do this to all 3 Bars.

I take my Snuggles and cut open each packet and put it into a container until they are all empty.

 Now take two kitchen garbage bags putting one inside of the other, so you have it double bagged and start putting all of the measured ingredients into it.

When that's done, take the bag and tightly hold it closed and with your other hand, gently toss it back and forth to get all of the different powders mixed together. This is what it's going to look like when its all mixed together.

  

I then put it into containers with covers.
This is how much I came out with. If you use the 2 containers of Oxyclean then you'll come out with more containers than I did.
 
 I use about 1/8 cup per load.

You can add some drops of your favorite Essential Oils, but I like the smell just the way it is with the different powders. Let me know what you think if you decide to try it. Until then, Just keep being a Blessing to your family.

Home For Sale!!!!

WHAT?????? How can you sell your Home?

A home can NOT be sold. You can sell your House, but you CAN'T sell your home. Years ago I told my children that their home is where their family is. Weather it be in a tent,

 
an apartment or

   

a mobile home,  

where ever your family is.....that is where home is. 
Now, How do we make this house a home?
First thing you do......Add People to share it with you. Preferably ones that you Love/Like. 💗
 
Maybe even an animal or two.

Pots clanging, dogs barking, doors banging, kids shouting, and even the occasional disagreeing. The sounds of togetherness aren't always soothing, but your house can feel empty without them.
 

Starting traditions with family and friends and creating memories.

The smell of Good Food Cooking. Weather it's a pot of Jambalaya or a Big pot of veggie soup for Sunday Dinner or just a batch of cookies, the smell of food in a home just naturally smells the place..... full of Love. 

 





Organizing projects to make the home more homey. I'm all about doing different projects to add that "homey touch" to my home. Weather it's adding things that I make OR things that I redo.....This Keepsake I made from an old window that belonged to my late father in law and it hangs in our bedroom.

 I made this to hang with all of our children's pictures when My "Mr. Handsome" and I got married and united our two families as one. 💞

This Lil Gem was salvaged from my late Father in Laws old shed. One look at this little Lovely and my heart skipped a beat. I cleaned it up, added some filling, mason jars filled with Sunflowers and a string of star lights.

Now this little Beauty was purchased from Tractor Supply. I filled it with some primitive vines and a good ole American flag that belonged to my Daddy. Simple and easy to fix and it's just my style.

 Just about every home needs a nice, quiet, comfy corner to get some serious reading done. This rocker belonged to my Grandfather, Andrew Thibodeaux. I put a lovely quilt from Cracker Barrel to hide the backing that is messed up a bit.

Don't forget about adding some Collections, OR as My "Mr. Handsome" calls them.......Dust Collectors. Really, he doesn't mind.....as long as he doesn't have to dust them. LOL I LOVE to collect different things that add a special touch to my home.

 All the items that proudly adorns your home tells the story of who you are and where you've been.

What about Family Heirlooms???? I love and Cherish items that I inherited when my parents went home to live with Jesus. My most prized possession is a set of dishes that belonged to my Grandmother, Josephine Thibodeaux. Actually, I have a few sets from her. Not all of them are complete sets, but I cherish them just the same. This is the oldest set. It dates back to the 1920's.

 

To me this is the prettiest set. It's not a full set, but I like to use it as often as I can.

and this set is just a few pieces, but still just as pretty.

Then, there's the little gadgets that we used before there was electrical ones. The item on the far left is a soda bottle opener on one end and a can opener on the other end. It was used to open cans of Pet milk. The second item is a can opener that you would use to remove the top of a can, such as tomato paste. The weird shaped iron item is what my daddy use to use to make us 6 kids snow cones with. He would freeze a butter container of water and then remove it from the container and use this contraption to scrape the ice with the blade that is underneath and when it was filled with ice shavings, he would flip open the lid and scoop out the ice into a little paper cone cup. It took him a LONG time to scrape enough ice to make snow cones for all of us kids. And last is an ice pick. I can remember as far back as I can my mom-ma and daddy using it to break up chunks of homemade ice to fill the pitchers of homemade root beer that mom-ma made us kids. There was no buying soft drinks in our home. It was homemade root beer or water. Take it....Or.....Leave it, cause there was nothing else.

But, it's mostly about the love of a family and the memories that is made between them. That is what's most important in making a house a home......The love that is shared between all who enter there.
